THE COMPANY
History
Our company's history has its origin from the union of two Pistoian families' destinies.
In
the early 1930s, after leaving primary school, AGOSTINO INNOCENTI
went to work for MARTINO BIANCHI, the premier nursery at that time.
There, he discovers his vocation and begins to cultivate his own
family's lands.
After the destruction brought on by World War II,
everything must be started up again…Agostino Innocenti devotes himself
to the production of fruit trees and travels to sell them in the active
markets of Bologna, Ferrara, and Padua. However, in post-war Italy,
travel is difficult and time-consuming, and there's enough work to be
done by two people. MARCELLO MANGONI, Agostino's young brother-in-law,
joins him and that is how the company comes to be known as INNOCENTI
& MANGONI PIANTE.
By the end of the 1950s, Innocenti & Mangoni Piante
had sold nearly a million trees, primarily fruit trees, while at the
same time developing its ornamental tree business. Business, like the
trees, grows steadily. The company is obliged to move to expand its
business and concurrently begins doing business first with the largest
markets in Italy and then with markets in other parts of Europe.
Agostino's sons, Roberto and Giorgio, succeed in boosting development
during a difficult period, thus projecting their company's future
growth. They travel extensively outside of Italy, study new technology,
and establish solid business contacts throughout Europe.
Innovations in traditional tree grafting take off.
Innocenti & Mangoni Piante introduces the process of growing trees
and plants in black plastic containers and later adopts canvas packing
of plants' root balls. The company is adaptive, streamlines its
headquarters and organization, adopts new technologies and expertly
trains its staff.
In the early 1980s, 80% of Innocenti & Mangoni
Piante's business is conducted outside of Italy. That decade will also
be marked by two major events, the catastrophic freeze of January 1985
and the death of founding father Agostino in 1989.
However, the business momentum would continue despite
these setbacks, which actually acted as catalysts for Innocenti &
Mangoni Piante to develop, step by step, the nursery of the new 21st
century and its extended reputation reflected in today's European
Union.
For several years now, Alessandro (Marcello MANGONI's
son), followed by Marco (Roberto INNOCENTI's son), have rejoined the
family business and continue to carry on the spirit of both tradition
and progressiveness with the same passion as their fathers.
Technicians, laborers…everyone adheres to this common philosophy
permitting Innocenti & Mangoni Piante to enjoy a successful
business today, with its sights set on the future and its feet solidly
rooted in its ancestral heritage.
